Uzbekistan starts sugar imports from Russia with first 20,000 tns
TASHKENT, Nov 17 (PRIME) -- Uzbekistan-based Uzbekozikovkatholding has signed contracts with several Russian companies to import beet sugar, and the debut 20,000 tonnes have already been delivered, the company’s representative told PRIME on Friday.
The executive said that Uzbekistan’s sugar demand will amount to 150,000 tonnes in November-December and Russia offers a competitive price and logistic conditions.
Agricultural holding Rusagro said that Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan, are the most promising markets for Russia-made sugar. CEO Mikhail Basov said earlier that if Russia produces 0.5 million excessive tonnes of sugar, it can sell it to Uzbekistan.
